    WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION:

Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is the most empirically supported treatment for treating childhood anxiety. The effectiveness of this approach is enhanced by integrating creative, developmentally appropriate interventions so that children will engage in treatment. In this training, a brief overview of CBT will be presented, along with innovative therapeutic techniques to engage, assess, and treat children with anxiety. Interventions will address the core treatment components: Psychoeducation, somatic management, affective expression, cognitive restructuring, exposure, and relapse prevention. Although the focus of this training will be on treating children with anxiety, many of the interventions can be adapted for use with other treatment populations.

    Learning Objectives:

1.Articulate the types of anxiety disorders.
    2.Differentiate normal versus problem anxiety.
3.Describe the core components of CBT for treating anxious children.
4.Discuss the benefits of integrating playful techniques with CBT to treat anxious children.
5.List the steps for implementing an exposure plan to help a child manage anxiety.
6.Implement innovative CBT techniques to treat childhood anxiety

PLEASE NOTE: This webinar is a pre-requisite for Workshop 3 on the Treatent of Traumatised Children as many of the issues covered will be pertinent to the Trauma treatment as well.
