APDT is an organisation that has been set up to provide high quality professional development workshops at affordable prices for mental health professionals and other members of the community.
The Directors of the organisation are Judy Christian and Dianne Starkey, who have joined together to use their extensive experience in running workshops in order to provide a wide range of professional development opportunities for their colleagues, in addition to some workshops on topics relevant to for client populations.
|Judy Christian initially graduated as a Social Worker in 1976 and then in 1980 as a Psychologist. She has since worked in a variety of roles in government and non-government organisations, and has been running a private practice in Castle Hill since 1993, as well as at other locations. She has taught in a number of TAFE institutions and has been a visiting Psychologist at Westmead Private Hospital for many years. Judy has considerable experience in individual and relationship counselling and has a particular interest in teaching parenting skills with the aim of preventing mental health, behavioural and health problems in children. Judy has been Treasurer of the APS Child Adolescent and Family Interest Group for many years and, with Dianne has been involved in the organisation and presentation of workshops for members. Judy has been a speaker for a variety of groups including GPs, lawyers, nurses and other community groups.|
|Dianne Starkey has worked as a Psychologist and Clinical Psychologist for the past 38 years. She has extensive experience in the treatment of children, adolescents and adults as well as having conducted assessments of children, adults and families, including assessments for various courts of NSW and Victoria. Dianne taught at the Nepean College of Advanced Education and the University of Western Sydney for over 13 years, teaching practical counselling skills, psychological assessment techniques and developmental psychology principles. Dianne is a well-known Clinical Psychologist in the area of child protection and the treatment of trauma and has run workshops in the areas of trauma treatment, attachment theory and the treatment of attachment disorder, as well as many other topics. Dianne has been the Co-ordinator of the Child Adolescent and Family Interest Group and has been involved in the organisation and presentation of workshops for the members for over 10 years. Dianne continues to run a busy private practice in Constitution Hill but is looking forward to expanding her role in the organisation of workshops for colleagues and clients in the future.|
